Where the River Keeps Its Names arrives in February
Our spring picture book from Tomas Renard and Bea Halloran, and what took it three years.
We acquired this manuscript as four pages and a title. It took three years to become a book, and almost all of that time went into the pictures.
Bea Halloran built the river first — nine spreads of water, in sequence, before a single town was drawn — so that the current would read as one continuous movement across the whole book. The towns came afterward, each one placed against the water rather than the other way around.
The result is a book you can read as a story or follow as a map. Both work.
